Look back, think forward: re-shaping the Nordic avant garde
Tate Modern, East Room
Saturday 14 May 2016, 15.00 – 17.00
This panel considers the recent artistic and curatorial tendencies towards looking back and unearthing, re-working and collaborating with historic avant-garde art practices in the Nordic countries to rethink the future. Challenging the Western canon of feminist, situationist and participatory art histories, how might re-imagining past practices make a meaningful impact on the shifting socio-political dynamics of contemporary Northern Europe?
Series chair Jonas Ekeberg will be joined by panellists; artist and curator Henrik Andersson, artist and editor Cecilia Grönberg, curator Joasia Krysa and artist Eline Mugaas.
Cecilia Grönberg will talk about image editing in relation to projects of alternative historiography, with examples from issues of OEI magazine and her books in collaboration with Jonas (J) Magnusson on the Swedish avant garde-artists Berndt Petterson (För pås-seende. Berndt Pettersons collage och bokstavskonst, 2012) and Leif Eriksson (forthcoming).
